Communicating Love
In her blog on Compassion International’s website today, Becky Giovagnoni asked two of Compassion’s field staffers about working in countries like India, Bangladesh or Indonesia, where “evangelism” is illegal.
In response, they said: “The true way to evangelize someone is simply to act in a way that causes them to ask, ‘Why do you care?’ This is what we do. We don’t “evangelize” the children in the sense most Westerners do. We simply care for them and then the parents ask why.”
Reading their response, I came to the same conclusion as Giovagnoni. I have to wonder, does it really need to be any more complicated than that?
Living out love in relationship with others is what Christ did. If we, as Christ followers, loved like Christ loved, maybe those around us would naturally ask why? Loving sacrificially is following Christ. The very act is so counter-cultural, even the hardest of hearts are drawn closer to learn more.
