Bio

Madeleine L’Engle said, “Stories make us more alive, more human, more courageous, more loving.” I agree. We are shaped, in part, by the stories we read, and by those we tell. Sharing a story, whether through fiction or non-fiction, is something I thoroughly enjoy. I aspire to do it well, and to that end, am continuously learning.

My debut novel, IN THE LIGHT OF THE SUN, is forthcoming from WaterBrook Multnomah in the fall of 2025. Set in the European and Southeast Asian World War II theaters, it follows the stories of two sisters—one in the Philippines and one in Italy—who find themselves caught up in the secrets, devastation, and intrigues of war. The story is inspired by the true wartime experiences of my mother and aunt and by the life of my great-grandmother, a mezzo-soprano who performed with the Gran Compania de Opera Italiana.

Short stories of mine have appeared in The Examined Life: A  Journal of the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, Westview: A Journal of Western Oklahoma, and in Wild Violet Literary Magazine, and most recently in the Spring 2018 issue of The Bitter Oleander. My essays and articles have appeared at Relevant Magazine, Women’s Adventure Magazine, Today’s Christian Woman, MetroParent, Just Between Us, SheLoves Magazine, Radiant Magazine, and on Beliefnet.com. One of my essays received a Silver Award in Travelers’ Tales Fifth Annual Solas Awards. Another essay of mine was a finalist in Penguin Random House’s Biographile (now Signature) Short Memoir Contest.

I am a member of the Women’s Fiction Writers Association and the Historical Novel Society.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in English, Cum Laude in 1993 from the University of Detroit. I worked as an editor for a publishing company, before becoming a communications coordinator for a public school district.
