Home Essay in Barren Magazine, Issue No. 4

I‘m honored to have an essay in Barren Magazine, Issue No. 4, which released today. Truly grateful to Jason Ramsey for choosing “Home” as an Editor’s Pick and to Barren for their kind inclusion of my work alongside the many talented writers, poets, and photographers. Many thanks, Jason & Barren!
December is a time of much holiday hustle and bustle. Yet many of us live in circumstances in which celebrating is the last thing on our mind. This piece, I hope, reflects that tension honestly. Though good can be found in the most difficult of circumstances, living in that space deserves understanding and empathy.
If you find yourself in a dark season, know you’re not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out for you for strength, comfort, peace and, yes, even glimpses of goodness.
If you’re interested in reading “Home” you can find it here. I hope you enjoy it.
My mother passed away in May of 2017 after an eighteen-year struggle with Alzheimer’s. Today is her birthday. I love you, Mom. Happy Birthday!
